See Famous Nollywood Celebrities Who Became Politicians

It is no longer news that several Nollywood celebrities have taken up various interests in politics to exhibit their willingness to make society a better place.
Below is a list of Nollywood stars who became politicians.
Desmond Elliot

Nollywood actor and director Desmond Elliot is currently an “Honourable” member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Surulere constituency. He declared his intentions to run for the Lagos State House of Assembly in September 2014 and was approved as a contestant under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress.
Desmond Elliot contested in the 2015 elections and emerged successfully. At the end of his first tenure in office, he contested again for the same position in the 2019 general elections and emerged the winner once again.
Kate Henshaw

Award-winning actor, Kate Henshaw, who is one of the most recognized people in Nollywood ran for the Federal House of Representatives seat in Cross River state in 2015, as a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). She lost the election but was appointed Special Adviser- Liaison, Lagos by Governor Benedict Ayade almost immediately.
Bob Manuel Odokwu 
The popular host of Gulder Ultimate Search Bob Manuel Odokwu was appointed Senior Special Adviser on creative media to Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State in 2013, and later in 2014, he was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Movie/Entertainment industry under Governor Willie Obiano.
He contested for a seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly in 2015 but things failed to go in his favor.
Kenneth Okonkwo

He is one of the most successful and celebrated actors in the Nigerian movie industry who is considered one of the pioneers of the movie industry in Nigeria. The “Living in Bondage” actor turned lawyer pulled out of the 2015 race for the Enugu state house of assembly in the primaries after the zoning decision was upturned. In 2018, the veteran actor who is known for his spontaneous acting prowess, revealed his intention to run for the office of the governor in Enugu State under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) with the immediate past governor, Sullivan Chime endorsing him.
Yul Edochie

Actor, Yul Edochie, expressed his ambition to contest in Anambra State after the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill was passed by the senate of the Federal Government of Nigeria, and ran under the umbrella of the Democratic People’s Congress (DPC). He was, however, on June 6, 2018, appointed the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Creative and Entertainment Media.
The actor turned politician still has ambitions to bring the problems of the country to the last bus stop. Yul Edochie, apart from being a very talented actor, is the son of Nigerian actor Pete Edochie who had run for the position governorship of Anambra state in 2017, losing to the incumbent governor, Willy Obiano.
 Kanayo O. Kanayo

Veteran Nollywood actor Anayo Modestus Onyekwere who is popularly known as Kanayo O. Kanayo is an entertainer that made Nollywood lively for us.
He had shown interest to run for a political post in the 2019 general election for the seat of a member of the house of representatives in Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency, Imo state, under the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) after losing in a bid for the national assembly back in 2011.
His dream was however aborted as it was gathered that he wasn’t cleared by his party.

Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, is also part of the growing list of Nigerian movie stars who hold political offices. The superstar actress bagged a political appointment as the Special Adviser on Tourism and Development for Akwa Ibom State in 2016 by Udom Gabriel Emmanuel and is holding office till date.
Banky W

Olubankole Wellington also known as Banky W who has as well made moves to secure a seat in politics. In November 2018, Banky W made his intention known to run for the position of federal House of Representatives for Eti-Osa constituency in the 2019 general election. Although being the contender for the Modern Democratic Party (MDP), he didn’t emerge the winner of the election but was rather grateful for the support he got.
